Furniture In Stainless Steel For Bold Looks

Filled under:

For a long time, it has been considered that furniture should be made extensively from wood. In fact, this is the first association most people make when thinking about furniture. Due to the rising cost of wood, and the lower price of plastic paved the way for hybrid furniture. Yet up until a few decades ago, there was one material that wasn't considered essential for furniture - stainless steel.

The Plus Side

When people hear "steel" they imagine bulky, heavy objects that are not in any way suited for moving around. In truth, steel furniture is often quite light, and can even be more lightweight than wood. The secret lies in the fact that hollow rectangular profiles are used instead of just an opaque rectangular block of steel. This allows for the furniture to be sturdy, yet very light.

The most common article of furniture in stainless steel is the classic steel table with glass surface. These are very stylish and have made their way into quite a lot of homes. Stainless steel contains chromium, which not only gives it that shiny, metallic look compared to cast iron, it also makes it more durable when placed outdoors. This is the one true benefit of furniture which uses stainless steel.

Stronger

When manufactured properly, stainless steel has a sturdy structure that can allow a person to feel safer even in the most extreme ways of using furniture. For example, children love to jump on beds, which might turn out to be a disaster for a wooden-framed bed, whereas a bed with a steel frame is not likely to suffer the same fate.

Fire Safe

As mentioned earlier, the resistance to the elements makes stainless steel a good choice for outdoor furniture - from chairs and tables to garden swing seats. In addition to that, stainless steel is also often used in regular furniture for the legs of bulky wardrobes for example. It's a good solution from a mechanical standpoint. In the event of fire, stainless steel furniture will not burn, but that's not an advantage most people think about.

The Drawbacks

The drawbacks of stainless steel furniture come when you have to consider temperature. Metal transfers heat more easily, which means that in a very cold day, a chair or table is likely to feel freezing to the touch. And if you leave steel furniture in direct contact with sunlight, it might be too hot to touch when you come back several hours later. Thankfully, these problems can easily be avoided if you use a cover of some sort - some fabric or maybe some upholstery.

In the end it all depends on the stylistic visions of the person buying the furniture. Some find steel furniture aesthetically pleasing while others don’t, and this could make all the difference sometimes. Still, the trends in steel furniture purchases suggest that more and more people are starting to get fond of the idea of having chars or tables made out of mostly metal. If the trend holds, we're likely to be exposed to a wider variety of such furniture.

Fashion Tips for Picking The Best Eyeglasses That Fits Your Style

Filled under:

It wasn't too long ago when many people felt embarrassed wearing their eyeglasses. This is because some people don't think about making a fashion statement when they choose their eye wear. They end up getting big, round, and ugly frames that are way too big for their face.

They believe the only way they can avoid looking like an ugly nerd is to avoid glasses completely and start wearing contacts. However, when you know what to look for, you can find the right pair of glasses that will not only help you see better, but also make you look better too. Take a look some tips that will show you how to choose a pair of glasses that will make you look fashionable.

The Frame

These days thick frames are in style. Look for thick rimmed vintage or designer frames that fits the shape of your face well. The alternative to thick frames are wire frames, which are not as noticeable on your face. If you go with thin rimmed glasses go with oval shaped frames if you have a face with older features, and round shaped frames tend to fit people with younger looking features.

You have to try out various pairs when you are trying to find the right size for your face. As long the eyeglasses are proportioned well with your facial features when you put them on you should be fine.

Never get frames that go past your head when you put them on, unless they are a pair of cats eye glasses. Make sure your glasses aren't too wide if you've got a narrow face, and never get plastic frames if the top of the frame blends in with your eyebrow, as this will make it look like you've got a unibrow.

The Color

Colors like gray and brown are popular when it comes to eyeglasses because they complement the shape of almost everybody's face. If you have a light skin tone wearing colors like red will fit you perfectly.

The general rule is that dark colors like black or brown fit people with dark skin tones, while light colors like pink, blue, or even purple fit people with light skin tone very well.

The Shape

The most fashionable shapes for eyeglasses are oval and rounded rectangular shaped glasses. Before you start trying out different types of shapes in frames that are colorful, it's a good idea to stick with standard styles first until you get more comfortable wearing your frames.

With any shape you choose to go with make sure it doesn't overwhelm your face and also make sure it complements your facial features properly. Oval shaped glasses usually go great with angular faces, while rectangular shaped glasses often complement rounder faces well.

Four Ideas For That Original Last Minute Halloween Costume

Filled under:

Halloween is only a few short days away. Are you ready for it? For Millennials, Halloween can be a time to get together with friends and let loose in a rather turbulent time. The fall season brings with it anxiety and pressure in the workplace as it tends to be the busiest time of the year. There's no question then that Halloween offers an opportunity for them to get together with friends and have some fun. A hallmark for many then will be a Halloween party, which could bring with it its own anxiety. What should you go as? Here are several ideas to get you started:

Think Outside the Box: Puns are a costumer's best friend. The Huffington Post released an article on some of the cleverest costumes in their opinion, and a great majority of them involve thinking outside of the box. For example, you could go as 50 Shades of Grey. You don't go as a character in the book, but rather as the book itself. Wearing several shades of grey, of course, is mandatory. Do you like weather humor? How about pretending to be a person who is in the middle of hurricane? Thinking outside of the box will not only give you a good idea, but it will allow you to be a conversation piece.

Think Pop Culture: This was a big year in regard to movies and television. Why not take advantage of this by dressing up as your favorite character in pop culture? For men out there, a popular costume is sure to be the Heisenberg look from "Breaking Bad." To get you started, just find a Pork Pie hat, grow a goatee, and wear a bald cap. Walter White was a fan of the green oxford shirt, so that's recommended as well. The brooding look is optional. If you're a female, you can't go wrong with Katy Perry's look from her musical video "Roar." It's essentially a "Jane of the Jungle" costume.

Think Sexy: Halloween is the time to let loose and wear something you wouldn't any other time of the year, right? Why not purchase clubwear that will empower you to feel good about yourself? You can also look into witch costumes and angel costumes that are sure to turn heads when you walk in the door.

Think the Status Quo but with a Twist: For many, there's nothing wrong with going with the classic looks. Although you won't be turning heads, you'll have plenty of fun with your friends. And you can surely customize old classics. Put a new spin on the Dracula costume by adding color, or be a Roman soldier who is a pacifist. There are a wide variety of options out there to make a classic costume your own.
Halloween is drawing near. Although time is short, you still have plenty of time to create a costume that embodies your personal taste and will still make you the talk of the party. One of these ideas will surely do that for you. Happy Halloween!
